A Cat and Dog Met on a Mat in the Fog

Dear Parents,

This week we will be working on rhyming words. In the classroom, we will be reading some of the classic rhymes. At this stage in your children’s education, they will begin to understand the sounds of spoken words. TEKS says that at this stage, “It includes recognizing and producing rhymes, dividing words into syllables, and identifying words that have the same beginning, middle, or ending sounds.”

1. Nursery Rhymes 4 U is a wonderful site to learn and recite nursery rhymes. Some of the nursery rhymes have music to them and some even have the music and words. Not only are you able read and listen to nursery rhymes, you can find those nursery rhymes that are good for playing games outside. Your children can also draw pictures that you can submit to the author of this site if you have access to scan the pictures. You can your children see the different pictures that other children have submitted from all over the world.

2. Do your children love to paint or play games. At Enchanted Learning, your children can paint rhymes or play games on matching rhyming words. This site also provides you with some ideas on making rhyming word games . You and your children will have fun playing the games and coloring pictures on the computer while learning traditional nursery rhymes. If you would really like to watch your children have a good time with reading rhymes, read a couple of tongue twisters to them.

3. To finish off this lesson, visit the Kaboose Reading Games site. You and your children can play games that match pictures and words that rhyme with the pictures. This is also a wonderful site to play games that will work on learning more about number and letters.

Rhymes are will fun to learn. Not only do your children love them but you will find that you love them just as much as they do. Maybe you and your children will find a cat and dog who met on mat in the fog.
